Think of a heat pump as an air conditioner with a “reverse gear.” In the summer, it pumps heat out of your house (just like a standard AC). In the winter, it flips a switch called a reversing valve and pumps heat from the outside air into your home.

How Heat Pumps Work

Bax, our camel mascot, explains the benefits or reversible heat pumps

An air source reversible heat pump works by using a refrigeration cycle to transfer heat; in heating mode, it absorbs thermal energy from the outside air and releases it indoors, while in cooling mode, it reverses this process to extract heat from your home and vent it outside.

This is achieved using a reversing valve that changes the flow of refrigerant, allowing the system to function as either a heater or an air conditioner depending on your needs.
